Robert Hunter MD
After finishing my orthopedic residency and sports medicine fellowship I joined the full-time academic faculty at the University of Minnesota. While there, I founded and directed the University of Minnesota Sports Medicine Institute; was the orthopedic surgery consultant for intercollegiate athletics and an associate professor.
After 10 years, I moved to Aspen, Colorado where I founded and directed the Aspen Foundation for Sports Medicine, Education and Research; served as the sports medicine fellowship program director and continued my academic career as a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Colorado. While there, I ran a busy private practice, covered all the sports activities, competitions and tournaments along with my partners and helped to build Aspen into a well respected academic center.
I left Aspen to return to full-time academics as a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Arizona. While there, I founded and directed the Arizona Institute for Sports Medicine, directed the Division of Sports Medicine and the orthopedic surgery sports medicine fellowship program and served as the orthopedic surgery consultant for intercollegiate athletics at the University of Arizona and the Chicago White Sox during spring training.
When I was approached to return to Colorado to start a new orthopedic surgery and sports medicine program in Salida, Colorado I could not pass up the opportunity. Ours is a rapidly growing program that balances patient care, education and research. Along with the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, and its administration and board we have embarked on a path to create a true orthopedic surgery center of excellence in this most beautiful part of Colorado.
